Halloween Delight
Trixie blew into the apartment she shared with her husband, Tad Webster, slamming the door behind her. Tossing her messenger bag onto the couch, she headed into the kitchen to grab a snack and to check on the dinner that was simmering in the crockpot. While opening the refrigerator, she noticed the invitation to the Bobwhite Halloween party, pinned above a picture of little Bella Webster, and groaned.
“Great. That party’s this weekend and we’re supposed to dress up. I suppose I’ll have to come up with costumes for the two of us,” she grumbled, knowing full well that Tad was not a very imaginative person and that he was incredibly busy at the Community Center. “He’ll probably want to be a stupid ball player again and that leaves me as what?”
When Tad arrived home a few hours later, he and Trixie got into a spat about the party.
“Why can’t you figure out our costumes this year?” griped Trixie. “I’ve been thinking about this since I got home and haven’t come up with anything yet. It’s your turn to think.”
Tad shrugged. “Fine.” He paused, then snapped his fingers. “I’ll go as a baseball player and you can go as a…”
“Yeah,” nodded Trixie. “I thought that’d be your solution. FYI, your baseball uniform isn’t very unique considering you wore it last year and the year before.”
“It works,” grinned Tad. “And requires no effort.”
Throwing up her hands, Trixie turned and walked out of the room.

The day of the party, Trixie came into the bedroom and tossed a bag toward her husband.
“Here’s your costume,” she announced.
“What is it?”
“Open it and see.”
Tad opened the bag and pulled out a large package. “A pirate?” he asked, pointing to the picture on the front.
Trixie nodded. “Yep.”
“And what are you going to be? And please don’t say you’re going as Tinkerbell or something like that.”
“Nope. Just wait right here.”
Trixie disappeared into the bathroom, then reappeared a few minutes later wearing silky, black harem pants, black mules, and a blue shirt covered with silver and gold pirate coins.
“What’s this?” asked Tad.
“My costume,” smirked Trixie.
“You’re going as an ATM?”
She rolled her eyes. “No. Try again.”
“You’re going as an exotic dancer?”
Trixie gawked at him. “Really? You see exotic dancer in this costume?”
Tad sighed in exasperation. “Then what is it?”
Grinning, Trixie shimmied slightly, making the coins tinkle and sparkle. “Easy. You’re the pirate and I’m the pirate’s treasure chest.”
Tad stared at the shirt for a split second, then grinned broadly. “Treasure chest. I like it.”
Trixie flopped across the bed. “I thought you’d approve.”
“Oh, I definitely approve. But I think before I fully commit to your costume, I should find out what lies below all those coins. More treasure, I hope.” He waggled his eyebrows.
“Definitely more treasure,” giggled Trixie. “And you won’t even need a map to find it.”
