"Whew! I'm glad that's over," exclaimed Trixie as she flopped into a booth at a local coffee shop.
Dan raised his eyebrows toward his wife.
"It wasn't that bad. So once a year, we have to go in for a complete physical. I think you survived and we did get paid for our time".
"Yea, but a morning without caffeine," Trixie shuddered and grabbed her head. "I can feel the headache now."
Dan signaled the server and ordered a large coffee for himself and a large tea for Trixie. Settling back in the booth, Dan watched Trixie play with the condiments on the table. Both were detectives with the police department and, as part of the requirements, all officers had to have a complete physical work-up once a year. Unfortunately, that work-up included fasting prior to the blood work being done.
The server returned with their drinks. Trixie eagerly took a huge gulp of her tea. Exhaling loudly, she relaxed into the booth.
"Are you ready to order", asked the server.
"Yes we are. We'll both take the BLT with fries," answered Dan.
"BLT's, EKG's, EEG's," snorted Trixie. "Just more initials in this abbreviated universe."
"Abbreviated universe? How 'Mart' of you." commented Dan.
"Whatever." Trixie went on. "But sometimes it is fun to figure out what the letters stand for."
"Like," Dan asked.
"APB." challenged Trixie.
"Easy. All Points Bulletin."
"WAC"
"Women...whoops!" Before Dan could finish his thought, coffee sloshed on his arm. Telling Trixie he would be right back, Dan got up and headed toward the bathroom. As Dan was making his way across the coffee shop, Trixie's phone rang. Noticing the name on the Caller ID, she quickly took the call.
After a few minutes, Dan returned to the table and picked up where he had left off.
"Women's Army Corps," he responded.
"Okay," challenged Trixie, "How about BOB?"
"BOB," Dan paused as he searched his mind for the meaning of those letters.
"I give up. What does BOB mean, Trixie?"
"Baby On Board," replied Trixie, as she held her breath.
"Baby On Board," pondered Dan.
"Yes," said Trixie as she pushed her tea away. "I'm pregnant."
